Hued privacy policy
Hued is a Shopify app by EGOMEZ DEV (Los Angeles, California) that lets shoppers browse a store's products by color. This policy explains what Hued collects from the stores that install it and from their shoppers, how it's used, and how long it's kept. Questions: ernesto.r.gomez3@gmail.com.
Information from your store (through Shopify's APIs)
- Your product catalog: titles, tags, product types, options, variants, prices, availability, inventory counts, publish dates, product images and which collections products belong to. Hued reads product photos to work out their colors and, if enabled, their patterns.
- Your menus, only when you click “Add to my menu” on Hued's dashboard, to add the “Shop by color” link.
- Your store's domain and the access token Shopify issues when you install Hued, so the app can work with your store. Hued doesn't keep the names or emails of your staff accounts.
Hued doesn't read your customers or your orders through Shopify's APIs.
Information from your shoppers
Hued collects usage information only when both are true: you left “Share anonymous analytics” on in Hued's settings, and the shopper allowed analytics through Shopify's privacy controls (the Customer Privacy API, which your cookie banner sets). Otherwise nothing is collected, and no identifier is created.
With both, Hued records:
- How Hued was used: opening the color window, the colors, pattern and match setting searched, the number of results, which product was clicked, and add to cart events (product, variant, quantity, price, currency).
- Purchases of products found with Hued, through Hued's web pixel, which Shopify loads only for shoppers who allowed analytics: the products, variants, quantities, prices, currency and colors searched, and the order number, which is used only so a purchase is counted once.
- A random session identifier kept in the browser's session storage (removed when the browser closes), so events from one visit can be grouped. It isn't linked to a customer or an order.
- Cart markers: private line item properties (such as “_hued_color”) and a cart attribute (“_hued”) noting the color searched, so the pixel can attribute a purchase. Shoppers don't see them at checkout; you can see them on the order.
Hued doesn't collect or store shoppers' names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, IP addresses, device or browser identifiers, or customer IDs.
What stays on the shopper's device
- Photos picked with “Pick from a photo” are read in the browser and never uploaded.
- Saved colors and display choices (colors saved with the heart, whether the selected-color card is folded) are kept in the browser's local storage and never sent to Hued.
How the information is used
To provide the app: searching and sorting your products by color, and showing you how shoppers use it (Hued's Analytics page). Hued doesn't sell or rent this information, doesn't use it for advertising, and doesn't combine it with data from other stores.
Service providers
- Hosting: Hued's servers and database run on DigitalOcean, on servers in San Francisco, United States.
- Anthropic (only if the photo pattern check is turned on): product photos from your store are sent to Anthropic's API to detect patterns such as camo or stripes. No shopper information is sent. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this data isn't used to train its models.
- Shopify, which runs your store and delivers Hued's storefront features.
How long it's kept
- Usage and purchase events: up to 400 days, then deleted automatically.
- Your catalog and the colors and patterns read from your photos: while Hued is installed. They're deleted when you uninstall Hued.
- Everything else about your store, including analytics, is erased when Shopify asks Hued to delete your store's data, 48 hours after you uninstall.
Privacy requests
Hued answers Shopify's customer data and deletion requests. Because Hued keeps no information that identifies a shopper, it has none to return or delete for a specific customer. Merchants can ask about or delete their store's data at ernesto.r.gomez3@gmail.com, or by uninstalling Hued.
Security
Connections use HTTPS. Requests from Shopify (webhooks and storefront requests through Shopify's app proxy) are verified with Shopify's signatures, and access tokens are kept on Hued's servers only.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new effective date. Material changes are announced to merchants in the app.
